Inviting the Body into Talk Therapy
Somatic Experiencing in Atlanta
We invite the body into talk therapy to increase awareness and mindfulness.
Repeated trauma and/or stressors can often impact the nervous system in a way that it takes it outside of its normal rhythm. This trauma builds up energy that is may remain stuck and has not been released. When this happens the nervous system may have difficulty handling the ebbs and flows associated with daily life. Not functioning within its normal flow makes it difficult to concentrate, manage emotions, handle stress, interact with others, or remain in the present moment.
Your therapist will assist you in taking it slow to process what is coming up in sessions.
Slowing down is the key ingredient to helping you move through trauma without re-traumatizing yourself.
Somatic Experiencing aims to bring harmony back to your nervous system. This method slows you down as you revisit the trauma to explore your sensations in the present moment. We may pause during parts of the session to bring awareness to what is going on in your body, memory, senses, or sensations you are noticing.
Bringing mindfulness and flow back to your body can help you not only notice changes within your body but helps to reset your body’s natural flow within the nervous system along with releasing built-up energy caused by trauma.
